Bio Protocol Secures $6.9 Million Seed Round to Revolutionize Scientific Research

Bio, a decentralized science (DeSci) protocol, has raised $6.9 million in a seed round led by BitMEX cofounder Arthur Hayes’ Maelstrom Fund, with participation from Mechanism Capital, Animoca Brands, and others. The funding follows the launch of Bio V2, an upgraded platform aimed at creating an onchain “scientific superintelligence” through tokenized AI research agents called BioAgents. Bio allows scientists to raise funds, share research openly, and monetize their work via decentralized DAOs and token sales. Its first BioAgent, Aubrai, has minted over 1,000 scientific hypotheses and raised $250,000 in less than a month, with its token surging 150x at peak valuation. Bio V2 introduces fundraising tools, staking, and a rewards program (BioXP) to incentivize research contributions and engagement. Upcoming BioAgents will target areas like dermatology, microbiome, brain health, and men’s health. The protocol has already directed over $50 million in funding to global labs and aims to accelerate drug development timelines from decades to months. Bio positions itself as a potential “AI-native research market” and community-driven scientific launchpad.
